What Acoustic Felt Panels Are Actually Made Of

“Felt” is doing a lot of marketing work in this category. The panels aren’t woven textile felt — they’re thermally bonded polyester fiber, pressed into a semi-rigid board under heat and pressure. BEIEN’s Panneaux acoustiques en PET (BP-01 through BP-54) are produced from 100% polyester fiber, felted in-house rather than sourced as pre-made sheet stock and cut to size afterward.
That distinction matters for buyers comparing quotes. A board produced from raw fiber on-site gives a factory more control over density consistency across a production run. A board bought pre-felted and simply re-cut doesn’t carry that same traceability back to a single production batch — and density is the variable that drives both acoustic performance and fire behavior, which is why it shows up again in the next section.

Is a 9mm Test Sample Enough to Rate the Whole PET Line?

Here’s where most acoustic felt panel listings get loose, and it’s worth asking directly: does one test result cover every thickness a supplier sells?
BEIEN holds SGS Test Report SHFS2403000289FF (SGS reference SHIN2403000573CM01), issued by SGS-CSTC Standards Technical Services (Shanghai) Co., Ltd. The tested sample was a polyester sound-absorbing board, model BN-002, at 1700 g/m² density and 9mm thickness, sheet size 2420 × 1220 × 9mm. Under EN 13501-1:2018, it classified as B-s2,d0. The report is dated 1 April 2024.
That result applies to the tested configuration: 9mm thickness, that density, that sample. It does not automatically extend to the 12, 15, or 24mm sheets, to custom densities, or to CNC-engraved or shaped variants — density and thickness both shift fire behavior, so a different thickness is a different test article under EN 13501-1 in principle. BEIEN has not published separate classification data for those other thicknesses yet.
Two other certificates sometimes get pulled into this conversation and don’t belong there. BEIEN’s FSC Chain of Custody certificate (GFA-COC-008037) and CE Type Examination certificate (DE/7552, for “BEIEN WALL PANEL” decorative wall covering) both apply to timber and wood-veneer product lines. Neither covers the PET felt panels described here. If a supplier’s PET panel page references FSC or CE without naming the specific certificate scope, that’s a reasonable thing to ask about before ordering.

Why Fire Claims in This Category Get Loose

Published acoustic felt panel data sheets from other suppliers commonly list a single fire rating — often “Class A” under ASTM E84 — as a blanket line-item next to every thickness and color in their catalog, with no note on which sample was actually tested. Compared to that common shorthand in the category, BEIEN’s documented result is narrower by design: one classification, one standard (EN 13501-1, not ASTM E84), one sample configuration, with the underlying report number available on request.
The trade-off is real. A buyer who needs a fire classification for a 24mm panel, or needs an ASTM E84 result for a North American project, can’t get either from the current documentation — BEIEN does not hold an ASTM E84 report, and that claim should not be used until one exists. What the SGS report does support is a defensible answer for 9mm PET boards in markets that reference EN 13501-1.

Customization: From Standard Colors to Private-Label Runs

Beyond the 40+ standard BP colors, the PET line supports Pantone or RAL color matching, CNC-cut shapes, surface engraving, and private-label packaging with sur mesure labels and logos. This runs through the same CNC processing used across BEIEN’s wood-panel lines, held to a stated ±0.3mm cutting tolerance.
For distributors building a private-label catalog, the practical sequence is usually: confirm base thickness and color against the standard BP range first, then layer customization on top — shape, engraving depth, and packaging are easier to quote once the base sheet spec is locked.

Standard production lead time is stated as approximately 7–15 working days, depending on order quantity and customization level. MOQ is inconsistent across BEIEN’s own materials — company-level pages state 50 panels, while some individual product pages show 100 panels — so confirm the figure for the specific BP color and thickness you’re ordering rather than assuming either number applies by default.

 Does the EN 13501-1 B-s2,d0 rating apply to every BP color?

Yes for the thickness tested — color pigmentation in the standard BP-01–BP-54 range doesn’t change the base 9mm PET board construction. It does not extend to the 12, 15, or 24mm thicknesses, which carry no separate published classification.

 Can these panels be specified for a project requiring ASTM E84 Class A?

Not currently. BEIEN’s fire documentation is an EN 13501-1 result, not an ASTM E84 test. Don’t substitute one standard for the other in a spec sheet.

Are these panels made from recycled PET?

The confirmed material spec is 100% polyester fiber. BEIEN’s own documentation has inconsistent statements on recycled content percentage, so a specific recycled-content claim shouldn’t be used until that figure is verified.
