Oak Acoustic Panels: Finish Options for Commercial Projects

BEIEN supplies oak acoustic panels in two veneer families. The NBW Natural Wood Veneer series offers natural oak and smoke oak. The TBW Technical Wood Veneer series offers Classic, Rustic, Classic Brown, Grey, Smoke, Dark Brown and Black Oak. Technical veneer is usually the safer choice when repeat orders must match.

Two veneer families sit behind every oak finish

Before you compare finish names, check which veneer family the name belongs to. This choice affects color matching more than any other line on your order.
Natural Wood Veneer (NBW series) uses real wood veneer sliced from timber. The grain and tone follow the wood itself, so two production runs of “natural oak” come from different logs and can look different.
Technical Wood Veneer (TBW series) is engineered to a defined pattern and color. Each finish has a fixed name, such as Grey Oak or Black Oak, and the series comes in one-side or three-side veneer coverage.
Both families use the same basic slat panel construction. MDF slats carry the veneer surface and sit on a polyester-fiber acoustic backing that BEIEN produces in-house.

9 oak finishes, sorted by series

The two smoke oak entries share a name but come from different veneer families. They are not interchangeable.

    Natural Wood Veneer (NBW)

    1. Natural Oak (NBW)
This is real oak veneer, with grain variation that comes from the timber. It suits projects where the specifier wants authentic wood character and the full quantity will ship in one order. FSC-certified veneer can be requested, but it is not applied to every order by default.
    2. Smoke Oak (NBW)
This is the darker natural-veneer option. Because it starts from real timber, expect visible differences between panels in tone and figure. On a large wall, the installer should blend panels from different cartons rather than install them in carton order.

    3. Classic Oak (TBW)
The default mid-tone oak in the technical range. For a distributor holding stock, this is the finish most likely to work as a core SKU.
    4. Rustic Oak (TBW)
This is positioned as the more characterful oak finish. Check the grain and knot pattern on a physical panel before listing it, because “rustic” means different things in different markets.
    5. Classic Brown Oak (TBW)
This finish is warmer and browner than Classic Oak. Purchase orders often confuse the two names, so quote and order by model number as well as finish name.
    6. Grey Oak (TBW)
A grey-toned oak for contemporary offices and hospitality interiors. Pairing it with grey acoustic felt gives a lower-contrast look. Black felt makes each slat stand out more.
    7. Smoke Oak (TBW)
This is the technical-veneer smoke oak. It is a separate product from NBW Smoke Oak and will not match it exactly.
    8. Dark Brown Oak (TBW)
A deep brown oak for projects that want a dark wall without going to black.
    9. Black Oak (TBW)
The darkest oak finish in the range. With black felt it reads as a nearly uniform dark surface. With grey felt the slat rhythm becomes visible.
The TBW also includes non-oak finishes: Light Walnut, Black Walnut and Ebony. The NBW range covers walnut, ash, teak, maple and zebra wood.

How to keep oak color consistent across repeat orders

Retail listings for oak panels, typically sold in fixed two-panel packs, rarely mention batch matching. For a distributor reordering the same finish every quarter, it is often the issue that leads to claims.

    1. Record the full specification, not just the finish name. Save the series, model number, finish name, felt color, veneer coverage (one-side or three-side) and panel size from the first order. “Smoke Oak” alone is not a specification.
    2. Keep a physical reference panel. Hold one approved panel from the first shipment in your warehouse. Ask for the same comparison before each repeat order ships.
    3. Ask for pre-shipment photos under the same lighting. The photos should show the new batch next to a reference panel, under one light source. Photos taken under different lighting are not a fair comparison.
    4. Keep the veneer family the same. Never switch from NBW to TBW in the middle of a project, even when the finish names match.
    5. Order phased projects in one run where possible. If a contractor needs three floors finished over six months, producing all the panels together removes the matching problem.
    6. Plan a blending step for natural veneer. Tell installers to mix panels from several cartons across the wall, so natural variation spreads evenly instead of forming visible blocks.

    Pricing, MOQ and lead time

Pricing is quotation-based. It depends on the panel type, dimensions, thickness, surface finish, fire-performance requirements, customization level, packaging, order quantity and shipping terms.

    • MOQ: BEIEN‘s pages currently state either 50 or 100 panels depending on the product, so MOQ is confirmed by product at quotation. Trial orders can be discussed.
    • Lead time: BEIEN states about 7–15 working days for standard production, depending on quantity and customization.
    • Payment: usually T/T, with a 30% deposit and 70% balance before shipment. L/C or OA can be discussed with long-term partners.
    • Shipping terms: EXW, FOB, CIF and DDP, by sea, air or rail.
All terms are reconfirmed on each quotation.

    FAQ

What oak finishes does BEIEN offer?

Natural Oak and Smoke Oak in the NBW Natural Wood Veneer series. Classic Oak, Rustic Oak, Classic Brown Oak, Grey Oak, Smoke Oak, Dark Brown Oak and Black Oak in the TBW Technical Wood Veneer series.

Will a repeat order match my first shipment?

TBW technical veneer is easier to match between batches. NBW natural veneer varies with the timber. For either series, record the model number, felt color and veneer coverage, and compare each new batch with a retained reference panel.

Are BEIEN oak acoustic panels FSC certified?

BEIEN holds FSC Chain of Custody certificate GFA-COC-008037. FSC-certified veneer is available, but the claim applies only to orders supplied as FSC-certified material. It is not automatic for every finish or order.

Do oak acoustic panels have a published NRC?

Not yet for BEIEN’s wood slat series. If a project needs tested sound absorption data, raise it at the inquiry stage.

Can distributors sell these panels under their own brand?

Yes. BEIEN offers OEM and ODM production with custom labels, logos and packaging. TBW panels can also be supplied with OEM packaging and branding.
